Cindi Ezzell Broughton passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the morning of Saturday, July 19, at her home in Newtown.

Cindi was born February 11, 1959, to her parents, Fred and Dorothy Ezzell in Tampa, Florida. She joined Girl Scouts and participated in many clubs and activities throughout High School and College. From a young age, Cindi would stay with family in Michigan during the summer months where she ended up meeting her future husband, Dave, the neighbor across the street.

In 1984, Cindi and Dave got married in a beautiful candlelit ceremony at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. They enjoyed many wonderful years traveling, trying new experiences and making wonderful memories. Just six years later, they welcomed their only child Stacy to their family where the three of them developed the most tight-knit bond. Cindi would go on to teach Stacy and how to scrapbook, play boardgames, and bake beloved secret family recipes. The family moved to Newtown in the late 90s due to Cindi’s job in information technology, where Cindi and Dave have happily stayed since.

A true Florida girl to the core, Cindi loved visiting the beach, searching for shells and reading a good book. She had a passion for crafting everything, throwing incredibly themed parties where no detail went unnoticed, and taking thousands of pictures. She had a deep love for all animals, especially all of the many cats and dogs she welcomed into the family over the years. Cindi found so much joy in following her Detroit Tigers, Michigan Wolverines and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She was an avid fan who proudly watched every game possible, cheering them on loudly from either the couch or from the stands. Cindi will be forever remembered for her kind and giving heart, her infectious smile, and strong independence.

She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, David Broughton; daughter Stacy Carey and her husband Jason; grandkids Luke and Liliana; many incredible cousins, nieces, nephews, and her beloved best friend of 60+ years, Brenda Burroughs. She was preceded by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Ezzell, as well as her brother Keith Ezzell.

After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's nearly 10 years ago, Cindi volunteered to be a participant in as many studies and trials as possible to help find a cure. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association in her honor. The family will be holding a visitation for Cindi at Honan Funeral Home in Newtown on Saturday, July 26, from 12 to 3 pm.

We welcome anyone in attendance to wear colorful clothing as Cindi loved bright, happy colors and it would perfectly represent her shining spirit.
