Free Car Show, Sock Hop August 11

The Sixth Annual Going Back in Time Classic Car Show and Sock Hop is set for Saturday, August 11, from 11 am to 2 pm at Ashlar of Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road in Newtown (Exit 11 off I-84 or off Route 25).

Admission is free, so bring lawn chairs and bounce to the “oldies” provided by local DJs Seth Carley and Mark Edwards. Use the ballot received upon arrival to vote for your favorite classic to receive the Peoples’ Choice Award.

First, second, and third place trophies will be presented to the selected winners.

Greyhound Rescue and Rehabilitation, a nonprofit organization of volunteers, will greet everyone with their “furry friends” to help raise public awareness about ex-racing greyhounds. Visitors are invited to tour new renovations currently underway at Ashlar of Newtown as well as visiting the adjacent assisted living residence, Lockwood Lodge.

For those who plan to enter a car into the competition, preregistration is not required, and each one of the first 50 cars to register that day will receive a dash plaque. The cutoff year is 1980 — no cars manufactured beyond that year will be allowed to enter the competition.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the show. There is no rain date scheduled. For information, call 268-1111.
