Planning For A Safer Future
Planning For A Safer Future
To the Editor:
This week I announced my decision to seek an elected position on the Newtown Police Commission, running on The Independent Party of Newtown ticket in November.
I have spent the last year attending Police Commission meetings and gaining a better understanding of its function and how the current members operate. I have concluded that my skills as a strategic planner and operations manager would be an asset to the Town of Newtown and to the Police Commission.
Newtown has grown exponentially over the last ten years. The issues the Police Commission manages, including safety and traffic, have grown right along with the community. New approaches and independent thinking can help the Police Commission continue to accomplish its mission. It is very important that the Police Commission gets ahead of these growing issues and begins to plan, in a proactive way, how we might solve them.
Addressing individual issues without an overall plan is not a solution. Reacting to pressure from small groups of residents without an overall plan will not solve our traffic problems.
We must have strategy to solve these issues and a concrete implementation plan. I believe my skills, independence and commitment to all the residents of Newtown can be an asset to the Police Commission as they go forward developing plans for Newtownâs future. It is equally important that we seek input from all the residents of Newtown and communicate in an open transparent manner our progress as we develop our strategy and implementation plan.
I hope the residents of Newtown will give my campaign serious consideration and vote for me and the other candidates of The Independent Party of Newtown in November.
