Summer History Adventure At Litchfield Historical Society
Summer History Adventure At Litchfield Historical Society
LITCHFIELD â During the week of August 13â17, the Litchfield Historical Society will offer children ages 9â12 the opportunity to participate in a Summer History Camp. Campers will be engaged in a variety of activities that center on the lives of residents of Litchfield during 1784â1833 when two schools operated in the town, The Litchfield Female Academy and the Tapping Reeve Law School.
Campers will learn about the lives of these students and experience some of their daily activities. Each day will highlight a different element of early 19th Century life, including a typical school day and making ink and quill pens, home life and spinning yarn, the arts and dance, investigating old records and touring the East Street Cemetery. The program will conclude with a skit performed in colonial costume followed by a formal tea for campers and guests.
The camp will take place at the Tapping Reeve House and Law School, 82 South Street in Litchfield. The fee of $165 for nonmembers, $125 for members, includes all materials and activities. Due to limited space, advanced registration is required by August 10. Class size is limited to 12 students.
