The high ranking students and instructors of Porcoâs Karate Academy recently took part in a weekend long training experience.
Back in June, the World Tang Soo Do Association sponsored its annual New England Region Black Belt training weekend. The camp was held at Post University in Middlebury and was attended by students and instructors from Connecticut to New Hampshire.
Porcoâs Karate sent 13 members from to train at the event.
The camp is a grueling test of the participants will and work ethic. The days are very long and center on fundamental martial arts training. The advanced students refine their abilities in seminars taught by master instructors from around the region.
Fields of training included advanced weapon practice, personal self- defense, advanced open handed combat, mental preparedness and physical endurance. The camp allows for students to train their bodies during the day followed by leadership and martial arts protocol training in night time seminars.
The camp concluded with a graduation ceremony and a final group workout.

Porcoâs Karate was established in 1984 and is the longest tenured martial arts school in Newtown. The school has trained well over 1,500 students and have produced over 22 quality black belts. Porcoâs Karate Academy is located at 113 Churchill Road in Newtown and at it newest location at 315 Main Street South in Southbury.
