An Archaeological Investigation

For Detectives Of The Past

The C.H. Booth Library has announced that Dan Cruson, the Newtown town historian, will lead a group of young adults (age 10 and up or entering grades 5–9) and their parents in a two-part “archaeology investigation” on Tuesday, August 2.

Mr Cruson is a skilled archaeologist who has taught this subject for more than 30 years and has made regular digs at Putnam Park in Redding, the site of a Revolutionary War encampment.

In the first portion of the session participants will meet at the library at 1 pm to view slides. They will have the opportunity to see and handle the unique tools and use investigative techniques to examine evidence from the past that have been discovered buried in the ground.

Everyone will then travel in their private cars for the 15-minute drive to Putnam Park for the second part of the session, a hands on tour of the encampment site.

This program is part of the “We Dig Summer Reading” program at the library this summer. Sign up at the main floor circulation desk or call 426-4533. For more information speak with Margaret Brown, the young adult librarian.
