Demystifying Medicare’s New Prescription Drug Plan

Eric Freedman from Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging Inc is offering a presentation at the Booth Library on Thursday, August 11, at 7 pm, to explain Medicare’s new prescription drug plan.

Starting January 1, 2006, Medicare will offer prescription drug coverage for everyone with Medicare. To get Medicare drug coverage, however, those eligible to receive benefits will need to enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan between November 15 and December 31, 2005.

Failing to join a Medicare prescription drug plan by May 15, 2006, will mean paying a higher premium that is one percent higher for each month past that date.

Mr Freedman will be providing numerous handouts with valuable information including how to apply for the program, how to know if one’s existing coverage is creditable, which medications will be covered, where the medications will come from, and how to know if one is eligible for extra help.

There will also be some time set aside for specific questions. The program is free and refreshments will be served. Call the Booth Library at 426-4533 with any questions and to RSVP.
