Live Raptor Demonstration

SOUTH BRITAIN — An unusual and memorable nature program will be held at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River at the end of August.

The Lillinonah Audubon Society is proud to present Wind Over Wings with Hope Douglas, a renowned bird rehabilitator and raptor expert who will bring a sampling of hawks and/or owls, discuss the mysteries of flight, and explain how the birds live their lives in the wild.

This is a fascinating program for all ages, according to the societ. The annual autumn hawk migration will begin in September, so this program will be a good warm-up.

The program will be held on Thursday, August 25. There will be refreshments served at the education barn at 7:30 pm, and the program will begin at 8 pm. The public is invited, and there is no charge.

Visitors should park in the lower lot near the kiosk and walk to the barn. It is recommended that visitors bring flashlights for the walk back to the parking lot. Say a center representative, “Bring a picnic, enjoy the warm summer evening, and please bring the kids.”

Further information can be obtained by telephoning the center weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm at 264-5098.

The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is at 185 East Flat Hill Road in the South Britain section of Southbury. Take Exit 14 off I-84 and turn left onto Route 172 north. Go through the light into South Britain and watch for East Flat Hill Road on the left (after the Country Store and before the Congregational Church). The Audubon Center entrance and parking area is a short distance on the left.
