“We’re always in need of volunteers,” says Mary Maki, president of The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library. “It’s great to have lots of people.”

As the Annual Labor Day Book Sale, which begins September 3 this year, draws closer, extra volunteers are invited to assist in the final preparations. All throughout the month of August, volunteers will continue to sort and box the thousands of books donated to the Friends book sale. Volunteer forms are available on the main floor of the library near the circulation desk, or prospective volunteers can contact Mary Maki at 426-3889.

The last weekend in August, says Ms Maki, is a crucial one. Many extra hands are needed at that time to set out the books in front of Newtown Hall at Fairfield Hills.

Young people can earn community service hours by assisting customers with large orders on the days of the sale, and with hundreds of people perusing the rows of books, there can never be too many on hand to straighten and restock books. “Our goal,” Ms Maki says, “is always to keep the books straightened and in order.”
