Rear-Ended On South Main

Newtown Police report Marisa Berdoe-Trechfield, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2025 Nissan Versa, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 9 am June 26. She was traveling behind a 2021 Hyundai Elantra operated by Kendi Villalta Ramirez, 27, Bridgeport, who stopped for traffic ahead. Berdoe-Trechfield could not stop in time and rear-ended Villalta Ramirez's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Berdoe-Trechfield was issued an infraction.

Vehicles Sideswiped Each Other

Newtown Police report Denise Turnbull, 73, of Bethel, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 10:41 am July 15. Andrew Colati, 43, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2025 Toyota Rav4, was also traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road. The two vehicles sideswiped each other.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Struck Bear

Newtown Police report Lori Rich, 63, of Oxford, operating a 2020 Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 9:41 pm July 16. A black bear entered the eastbound travel lane and Rich could not avoid it, and struck the bear.

Rich was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called, but they could not locate the bear.

No enforcement action was taken.

Failure To Appear Charge

Newtown Police report that officers conducted a traffic stop on July 17 and determined that the operator, Kenneth Langston, 48, of Bridgeport, had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear on motor vehicle charges several years ago in Stamford. Langston was charged with second-degree failure to appear. He was released on a $2,500 bond with a court date of July 30 in Danbury Superior Court.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Noel Vega, 30, of Waterbury, operating a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Hattertown Road and Dodgingtown Road facing westbound at 5:06 pm July 17. Tyler Hansford, 28, of New Fairfield, operating a 2000 Ford F350 towing a trailer, was traveling eastbound on Dodgingtown Road. Hansford began negotiating a left-hand turn when Vega attempted to proceed westbound on Dodgingtown Road. Vega struck Hansford's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Vega was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection.

Backed Into Sign

Newtown Police report Patrick Delcis, 43, of Burlington, N.J., operating a 2021 Freightliner tractor trailer, was attempting to make a left turn from Church Hill Road onto Main Street at 1:14 pm July 20 and was not able to navigate the corner. While backing up to create more room to take the turn, Delcis backed into a stop sign.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Rear-Ended On Dodgingtown

Newtown Police report Michael Johnson, 18, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Subaru Forester, was traveling northbound on Dodgingtown Road at 8:24 am July 22. He was traveling behind a 2025 Cadillac Xt5 operated by Guillermo Ballarino, 47, of Newtown. Ballarino slowed for the traffic control signal at the intersection of Taunton Hill Road, and was rear-ended by Johnson.

Both operators were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

The incident is still under investigation.

Left Turn Collision

Newtown Police report Maxwell Mai, 26, of Milford, operating a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:32 pm July 22. Chime Tenzin, 39, of Danbury, operating a 2025 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Mai attempted to turn left onto Country Club Road and struck Tenzin's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Mai was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way.

Failure To Grant Right Of Way

Newtown Police report Aleida Sandoval, 58, of Trumbull, operating a 2019 Honda HR-V, was traveling southbound on Hanover Road at 4:20 pm July 22. Jason Diotalevi, 30, of Naugatuck, operating a 2009 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on Main Street. Sandoval came to a stop at the intersection with Main Street, then began to make a left turn onto Main Street and struck Diotalevi's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Sandoval was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Passing On Right

Newtown Police report Shayne Ortiz, 25, of Woodbury, operating a 2021 Kia Forte, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 5:01 pm July 22. Madhuri Jerfy, 52, of Newtown, operating a 2013 BMW 535xi, was traveling southbound on Main Street. A non-contact vehicle stopped to allow Ortiz to enter Main Street, which Ortiz did, moving through the northbound and southbound lanes onto the shoulder to pass stopped southbound vehicles on the right, when he struck Jerfy's vehicle.

Both operators complained of injuries but neither accepted transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Ortiz was issued a written warning for passing on the right.
