Dial M for Marriage: An Evening of Mozart and Menotti

DANBURY — On Saturday, August 2, at 8 pm, “Dial M for Marriage: An Evening of Mozart and Menotti” will be performed at Danbury Music Centre.

A lively program will showcase the talents of local baritone Joshua Fein and soprano Jennifer Gliere, performing music from Mozart’s The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro, and performing The Telephone by Gian Carlo Menotti. Mr Fein and Ms Gliere will present an array of staged arias and duets in the original language from The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro, accompanied by spoken English introductions and projected English subtitles.

Following a brief intermission, the performers will regale the audience with a fully staged production of Menotti’s charming one-act opera in English, The Telephone. R enowned opera coach and conductor Stephen Sulich will provide piano accompaniment.

Joshua Fein is noted both for the ringing timbre of his rich baritone and for his creative approaches to the performance of classical song. An avid recitalist, he presents innovative performances which incorporate a variety of visual and spoken elements arranged to heighten the theatricality of the musical experience.

Jennifer Gliere received rave reviews for her portrayals of Suzel in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz with Mercury Opera Rochester and Magda in Puccini’s La rondine with Eastman Opera Theatre. Recent performances include The Old Maid and the Thief and The Telephone in Rochester, N.Y.; Mozart’s Requiem with Genesee Valley Orchestra and Handel’s Messiah with Publick Musick.

Admission is free for “Dial M for Marriage,” although donations will be accepted.

Danbury Music Centre is at 256 Main Street. For further information call 748-1716.
