United Girls’ Choir Taking Root Locally

SHELTON — The United Girls’ Choir has announced plans to establish a new chapter in Shelton beginning in September.

Auditions are currently being held for girls ages 6-16 from throughout the region.

The United Girls’ Choir is Connecticut’s fastest-growing choral organization, with over 500 members in 23 ensembles. The program already has well-established chapters based in Hamden, Branford, Milford, Cheshire, North Haven, Clinton, Killingworth, and Madison and is affiliated with the nationally-renowned Elm City Girls’ Choir of New Haven, which has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney World, and on CBS Television.

The Elm City and United Girls’ Choirs have appeared in the Shelton area many times with New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops Concerts at Shelton High School and Shelton Intermediate School, in a performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana at Naugatuck Valley Community College, and at venues such as Shelton Congregational Church, Stratford Methodist Church, and Spring Meadows of Trumbull.

Several residents of Shelton and surrounding towns are currently members of the United Girls’ Choir chapters and the Elm City Girls’ Choir, and many will be transferring into the new Shelton ensemble.

Audition information may be obtained by calling Rebecca Rosenbaum, music director, at 203-787-1244 or by sending e-mail to info@unitedchoir.com.
