Winners Are Named In Annual Horse Guard Show

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard hosted its annual fund-raising Horse Show this past Sunday, at the 2GHG facility at Fairfield Hills. The show is recognized by the Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association and the Connecticut Horse Shows Association.

Despite early morning thunder storms, nearly 50 riders participated in classes, including English, Western, Hunter, Pleasure, Equitation, Lead-line and Driving.

2LT Jennifer Mazzara was the show manager and Major Gordon Johnson the Chairperson. Naomi Gauruder of BHC Management was the course designer and the Judges were Richard Lockhardt and Megan MacCallum.

The Governor’s Cup – awarded to the highest scoring Adult Amateur Hunter or Modified Adult Amateur Hunter – went to Liz Sacksteder of Westport, riding Saint Slewie Blue, owned by MaryAnn Rudolph of Sunnybrook Farm in Newtown.

The Town of Newtown Perpetual Trophy – awarded to the highest scoring Short Stirrup Rider – went to Karlan St. Germaine of Munson, Mass., riding Aberkrombie.

Division Championship winners included:

· Adult English Pleasure, Lauren Lasher

· Children’s Pleasure Pony, Jessica Fusaro

· Junior English Pleasure, Jessica Fusaro

· Open Pleasure Driving, Richard Jones

· Open Carriage Pleasure Driving, Richard Jones

· Modified Equitation,Tami Scotto

The Horse Show is a fund-raising event for the Troop. 2GHG is a 100-percent volunteer state militia unit, serving the Governor and the State of Connecticut under the direction of the Connecticut National Guard. 2GHG is one of the oldest cavalry units in continuous service in the United States and members are dedicated to preserving Cavalry traditions.

Upcoming events include:

· The 2GHG Open House is scheduled to take place on September 14 from 11 am to 2 pm. There will be games and contests for young children, and at 1 pm a mounted cavalry demonstration, a musical ride and the 2GHG Drill Team will perform. Admission is free and a food vendor will be on the premises.

· The 2GHG Battalion Review and Military Ball in New Haven is set for October 4. Information will be updated at www.thehorseguard.com.

· The 2GHG Annual Trail Ride for St. Judes Children’s Hospital will take place on November 9. All proceeds go directly to St. Judes.
