Discusses Solicitation Ordinance
To The Editor:
Twelve months ago, I spoke during public comment with regards to the ongoing nuisance, intrusion, annoyance and homeowner safety of our 1969 Newtown Ordinance on door to door solicitation.
One year later, after reading hundreds of negative social media comments about the current concerns surrounding safety and enforcement of our current ordinance on solicitation, I would ask that you please attend the Legislative Council Meeting Wednesday August 6, at 7:30 pm, held at the Municipal Center to voice your concerns.
The changes I have mentioned to the Council & and Selectman Capeci have included the following: 1. Background Checks completed of the applicant requesting to solicit, 2. Motor Vehicle check including license plate verification, 3. Tax ID & name of the CT or out of state business being represented, 4. Hours of operation listed in application, 5. Photo ID of solicitor & badge to be worn at all times, 6. The Police Department issue the approved permits and electronically store the application requests/approvals and enforce solicitors without permits.
The safety of our children playing outside and our homes are lacking the protection that is critical to a Safer Newtown Community.
What can you do if you are not able to attend the meeting? Facebook comments are not going to support an overdue Ordinance change on Solicitation?
Please go to the Newtown-ct.gov website, scroll down and click the link to the Email Legislative Council and express you concerns in writing and email First Selectman Capeci: Jeff.Capeci@Newtown-Ct.gov.
