The Newtown Junior Women’s Club (NJWC) has announced the return of its Annual Back-to-School Backpack Program, which provides backpacks and school supplies to students in need.

NJWC works with Newtown Social Services, which has about 85 students in need this year. Social Services maintain a list of general supplies that are needed on an on-going basis throughout the year. Newtown Social Services distributes the supplies, maintaining students’ anonymity.

Residents who wish to help support the program can visit Newtown Savings Bank’s Main Street or Sand Hill Plaza branches, select a “list” or “tag” as NJWC calls it that identifies the supply list, gender, and grade of the student.

Monetary donations are also accepted and will be used towards the purchase of supplies. This year there is need for larger packs for high school age students. The TI34 and TI30X calculators, used in the intermediate and middle school math classes, are also in great need.

The donation deadline is August 15. For further information, contact Ruth Brassard at 203-270-7022 or Rbrassard@att.net.

The Newtown Junior Women’s Club’s Annual Back-to-School Backpack Program is open for donations through August 15.
