The 2025 Tuesday Tunes Concert Series, an annual offering presented by Newtown Parks & Recreation and Friends of The C.H. Booth Library, has been offering free weekly midday concerts at Dickinson Park since early July.

Recent concerts have included Joy Blooms on July 15, followed by BenAnna Band on July 22.

Blooms is a 2025 National Parenting Products Award winner for Best in Children’s Music. The Connecticut-based performer is a children’s musician, writer, educator, and entertainer.

Although the weather was extremely hot and humid for her recent Newtown performance, approximately 100 children and adults alike were enthusiastic participants.

Comments from the guests included, “Dancing to the ‘Choo Choo’ song was so much fun,” “Her music makes you want to dance,” and “I feel like a kid again trying to balance this plastic egg on my foot!”

“Choo Choo,” an original song by Blooms, led to many creating a huge conga line during its performance.

The following week, New York-based BenAnna Band continued the performances at Dickinson Memorial Park’s band shell. Both members of the nationally touring duo studied music therapy at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y.

Singer and guitarist Ben Norton and singer and tambourine player Anna Delgado put on a dynamic performance with the high point being a bubble chasing song where dozens of children ran around the band shell area chasing bubbles, yelling, giggling, and having good old fashioned summer fun.

Despite the very hot and humid weather the children again had a wonderful time participating in the musical numbers while their parents enjoyed the shade under the beautiful trees.

The series continued this week with a performance by Lynn Lewis & Friends. The series finalé is planned for Tuesday, August 5, with Judy Pancoast.

Performances run from 11 am until noon and are suitable for all ages. Reservations are not needed; BYO seating.

Concerts are at the band shell of Dickinson Park; closest parking is from the park’s Deep Brook Road entrance. In the event of rain the shows move to The Hawley School, 49 Church Hill Road.
