Newtown Police Department, in partnership with Newtown Community Center, will present its annual National Night Out event, this year to take place on Tuesday, August 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, on the Fairfield Hills Campus.

The fun-filled evening is free and open to the public, bringing together local families, first responders, and community organizations to celebrate community spirit and public safety partnerships.

This year’s event will feature a wide range of community agencies, including Newtown Prevention Partnership, Newtown Center for Support and Wellness, Animal Control, and many others. Organizers are also proud to welcome representatives from the DEA, the US Army National Guard, and various town first responder agencies.

Attendees can enjoy local food trucks, family-friendly games, and the chance to dunk a local first responder in the dunk tank.

“We’re keeping our fingers crossed for good weather this year so we can enjoy a great time and meet all the wonderful people in our community,” said Officer Stephanie McDermott.

National Night Out will return to the Fairfield Hills campus this week.
Attendees respond as Newtown Police Sergeant Will Chapman gets a bucket of water dumped on him during the 2023 National Night Out presentation at Fairfield Hills. The police department and Newtown Community Center are planning another presentation of the national family-friendly event, and hoping for better weather after last year’s was postponed and then eventually canceled. —Bee file photo
