The Lesser Of Who Cares

To the Editor:

I read, with great amusement, the acceptance statements from both of the two main party candidates. First was Mr Rosenthal, whose statement amounted to more of the same old arrogance. He pretty much just promised more of the same, doing whatever he wants, saying whatever he wants while referring arrogantly to his critics as “small people,” and that their politics is “not wanted here.” News flash Mr First Selectman, its called democracy and it means all politics are welcome here, not just the ones you agree with! Mr Rosenthal still doesn’t seem to understand that politics is personal and more so because he makes it that way. At least he is open and honest about how he will continue to just ignore the taxpayers and go right on doing what he does best and that is bashing anyone who criticizes him.

The Republican nominee wasn’t much better. His statement was pretty much an announcement that he is his party’s designated sacrificial lamb. When you run for office you are supposed to be at least of the thinking that you can do a better job than the guy you are running against. Instead of appealing to the many voters who are sick and tired of the nasty arrogance of his opponent, Mr Borst clearly indicated he is simply running for the office because no one else will. That statement in and of itself just doomed his candidacy! So now Newtown, there you have it, just another election where you get to choose between the lesser of who cares!

I imagine the budget process next year will go much like it did this year. Those who vote against further reckless spending, and large tax increases, will be called names and treated harshly by government officials like Mr Rosenthal and his cronies. The education supporters , rightly so, will grow frantic with each budget cut as they once again fail to realize that Rosenthal and company continue to hold their children hostage. However, Mr Rosenthal will have to face facts, and that is that us “small people” like Mr DeAngelis and others will still be right here front and center in his face. Political hacks like him never understand how they are the ones responsible for that. Maybe he can parade another town hall employee out to stand up for him and bash his critics this time. The gal he sent out last time did a pretty good job of it.
