Violations

Police said they learned on July 30 that Anthony Diorio, 18, of Prospect had parked a vehicle in the fire lane in front of the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.

After investigating, police charged Diorio with illegal parking in a fire lane and with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Police released Diorio on $250 bail for a an August 11 court appearance.

Sandy Hook Accident

Motorist Edward Ratigan, 34, of 6 Vining Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy sedan on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, stopped for traffic about 5 pm August 2, police report.

Motorist Peter MacKay, 20, of 12 Walker Hill Road, who was driving a 1993 Honda Civic, struck the Subaru from behind, police said.

Dacia Ratigan, 35, who was a passenger in the Subaru, reported neck pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the scene.

Police issued MacKay an infraction for following too closely.
