Ralph Sergiovanni poured in 32 points (on 15 field goals and 2-of-4 shooting from the foul line) and UCLA rolled past Duke, 60-49, in Rising Stars Summer Basketball League action.

Andy Lapple tossed in 12 points with the aid of a three-pointer and Dan Quinn tossed in eight more as the Bruins broke open a close game (one point separated the teams after eight minutes) in the second and third periods.

Sergiovanni’s hot hand overshadowed the double-digit efforts of Joe Cappiello (15 points – 12 in the second half), Brendan O’Connell (14) and Austin Jones (12). Dan Gallagher (6) and Kelly Anne Brophy (2) also scored.

In the other game Tuesday night, Connor Collier scored 22 points (4-of-6 from the foul line) and George Zaruba added 19 more as UConn slammed Syracuse, 63-35. Kate Marsden had 12 points for the Huskies, who also got an eight-point effort from Dan Quinn. For the Orangemen, Josh Engler canned 15 points (3-of-5 from the line) and Adam Schankman added 11 more. Matt Datin and Grant Braun combined for 10 points as Keegan Lombard and Dan Sclafani each tossed in a bucket.

Last Thursday, Dan Clement canned 19 points (with three three-pointers) and George Zaruba added 17 more to lead UConn to a 73-66 win over Duke. Dan Quinn (16) and Kyle Wilcox (13) had double-figure efforts as Connor Collier and Scott Runkle tossed in four points apiece. For Duke, Xhulio Halili had a game-high 26 points while Steve Musco added 16 points and Joe Cappiello contributed 12 more. Chris Winters scored six.

Josh Engler poured in 19 points and led Syracuse to a 47-42 win over UCLA. Matt Datin canned 10 points while Grant Braun and Keegan Lombard chipped in with six points apiece. For UCLA, Brendan Blawie scored 15 points and Alex Grant added nine while Ed White and Nick Dinielli tossed in six points apiece. Dan White, Zack Bryan and Jeff Grasso combined for six points.

On Wednesday, Duke was slated to face Syracuse while North Carolina was scheduled to take on UCLA. Next Monday, it will be North Carolina versus UCLA and UConn versus Syracuse. Next Wednesday, it will be North Carolina versus Syracuse and Duke versus UConn.
