Toastmasters To Host Speech Contest

Newtown Toastmasters will host a speech contest on Wednesday, September 21, in the Parks & Recreation Conference Room at Town Hall South, 3 Main Street. The event will run from 7 to 9 pm.

There will be two competitions: Table Topics and Humorous Speech.

Table Topics are questions asked impromptly. Contestants will have up to two minutes to answer the question. Speakers can go 30 seconds over the two-minute mark but must speak for at least one minute to qualify. Any speech under one minute or over 2:30 will result in the disqualification of the contestant.

Humorous Speech Contest will judge speeches with a humorous content to them. Speeches must be largely original in nature.

Speeches will need to be five to seven minutes, however they may be 30 seconds under or over that time; if a speech is under 4:30 or over 7:30, the contestant is disqualified.

The winners of both contests will advance to the Area A-15 contest to be held at a date to be determined.
