Newtown Cares-Suicide Prevention Initiative (NSPI) announces the cancellation of a presentation about Tea @ 3 due to a schedule conflict.

Tea @ 3 is an intergenerational friendship initiative designed to improve social connection and mental well-being. The program pairs seniors (age 55+) with young adult "Tea-Mates" for a phone call or video chat once a week. The two connect over tea, enjoy conversation, and perhaps share words of wisdom, too.

A presentation about the program had been planned for Wednesday, August 26, at Newtown Senior Center. Organizers learned last week, however, that the event had been scheduled during the annual closure of the building at 8 Simpson Street for maintenance and other work.

Maureen Crick Owen, co-chair of the initiative, says readers are still welcome to contact her for information about the program. She and fellow NSPI Co-Chair Anna Wiedemann introduced Tea @ 3 to local senior citizens last summer.

The fall 2026 Tea @ 3 session runs mid-September to the end of November. The deadline to register is September 11. Those interested can register directly through forallages.org/tea-at-3 or with a physical application form available at the front desk of the senior center.

Contact Newtown Senior Center (203-270-4310) or Newtown Cares (newtownspinitiative@gmail.com) to register.

Newtown Cares-Suicide Prevention Initiative is a community-led organization dedicated to raising awareness, providing educational resources, shattering stigma, and fostering life-saving connection and compassion throughout the town.

For additional information on the initiative contact Crick Owen at 203-733-4562.
