The 2004 Newtown Bee King & Queen Dog Contest will receive entries for one more weekend. All dogs with valid Newtown licenses are eligible to enter the contest, which will culminate on September 1 with the announcement of the king and queen dogs of Newtown. Those dogs, and their owners, will then ride in the Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 6 with former Olympic champion and renowned skating commentator Dick Button as chauffeur.

Dogs can be brought to the offices of The Newtown Bee, at 5 Church Hill Road, on Friday, August 6, between 9 am and 5 pm, and Saturday, August 7, between 9 am and noon, rain or shine. A photographer will be set up in The Bee’s lower parking lot, and each dog will have its portrait taken. There is no cost to enter.

All portraits will be printed in the August 13 and August 20 issues of The Newtown Bee, along with ballots for voting. The public is invited to vote for their choice of King and/or Queen. Votes are 25 cents each. Voters will have the opportunity to not only select the dogs of their choice for king and queen, they will also decide which organization will receive their donation. This year’s contest will benefit Canine Advocates of Newtown Inc, The Newtown Fund, The Newtown Tercentennial Commission, and Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown (SNAN).
