The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises that normal dual-lane traffic flowing on eastbound Interstate 84 between Exits 11 and 13 will be reduced to one lane of traffic on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week from 9 am to 3 pm, each day, to allow certain construction to proceed on an I-84 bridge replacement project.

The left lane on eastbound I-84 in that area will be closed during those periods.

The first day of such lane closures on Monday created lengthy traffic backups on eastbound I-84 that extended back to Danbury.

Both the eastbound and westbound I-84 bridges that cross above Center Street in the Riverside section will be replaced by DOT in a $5.9 million project scheduled for completion by April 2015. Most of the construction work until now has occurred in the nighttime.

The bridges, which are about 35 years old, are structurally deficient and need replacement.
