The work of Aria Brownell is being featured at The Gallery at Newtown Municipal Center through the end of August.

Ms Brownell is a graduate of Newtown High School and SUNY Purchase; she earned a BFA from the latter.

She is the daughter of Robert Rabinowitz and Lee Brownell of Newtown.

Her work includes oils as well as medium acrylic spray paint. She has explored the difference between natural and artificial light in her paintings. Her work may “jump around,” she notes, but she adds that her constant is the affinity between human and electronic relationships. The small studies in her exhibit are the most prominent example of that study.

SUNY Purchase gave her the chance to share studio space with other artists, according to Ms Brownell.

“I had always painted alone before that,” she says. But shared space gave her a chance to learn from others and share their energy.

Her future includes a renewed interest in photography and her continued devotion to her painting.

“My mom is an artist, as was my grandmother,” she noted. “My mom is my role model. She has a day job so she can paint.”

Additional information is available on Ms Brownell’s website, ariabrownell.com.

Art on view at Newtown Municipal Center, located within Fairfield Hills at 3 Primrose Street, can be viewed Monday through Friday between 7:30 am and 5 pm.

Aria Brownell stands before a grouping of her paintings, among the pieces on view Newtown Municipal Center through August 31.
