A Summer’s Worth Of

Sabrina’s Encore Productions

Sabrina’s Encore Productions LLC just completed their summer season for 2009 which included productions of 101 Dalmatians for students in grades 1-6, Into the Woods for students in grades 7-10, and The Producers for students grades 11 and up.

Over 80 percent of all of the cast — which was close to 200 students — are from Newtown or had attended Newtown Public Schools before graduating.

The season kicked off with Steven Sondheim’s Into The Woods, which was performed at Ives Concert Park in Danbury on Friday and Saturday nights for two weekends in July. Performers were accompanied by a professional six-piece orchestra.

The second production was the Mel Brooks comedy The Producers. The winner of a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, this show was presented at Edmond Town Hall by a cast that included graduates of Boston Conservatory, Ithaca College, Gettysburg and Iona along with students from surrounding Fairfield County. Actors were accompanied by a 12-piece professional orchestra, many with Broadway credit.

There were five evening performances of this show, running Wednesday, July 29, through Sunday, August 2.

The final show for the summer was Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids, also performed at Edmond Town Hall, by a cast of 40 children in grades 1-5. The show was an early afternoon presentation on Saturday, August 1, at 2 pm.

Sabrina’s Encore Productions is a performing arts school focusing on professional training of the musical theatre performer, culminating with a professional live performance. Many community members supported the performers as audience members and fans.

“Thank you to all who have supported our talented students,” said Sabrina Post, the director and owner of Sabrina’s Encore Productions. “It is a memory that each and every one of them will remember and build from.”
