The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Gigi Liverant, a well known Connecticut artist, demonstrating “Exploration of Color in Pastel” on Wednesday August 13, at 7:30 pm. The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The demonstration is open to the public, free of charge.

Gigi Horr Liverant’s work is experiential in nature and inspired by the inconsequential moments and places in life. She juxtaposes rich color, encouraging the observer to experience an ordinary scene with a fresh vision and a prompt to reevaluate his or her own perception.

Ms Liverant has worked with pastels and paint for over thirty years in an ongoing exploration of imagery. She has also expanded her work in pastels and oils to the use of acrylic paint for large-scale paintings.

The artist has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including a first prize honor from Connecticut Women Artists, Best in Show from Connecticut Pastel Society, The Andrew Giffuni Memorial Award at the Pastel Society of America Annual Exhibition in 2009, and The Diane Bernhardt Gold Medal Award at the PSA Annual Exhibition in 2000.

She is a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist and a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society.

Ms Liverant has also been awarded important national and regional commissions including the Cow Parades in New York, West Hartford and Boston, and murals at multiple private and public locations. She has been featured in Pastel Journal magazine and is a much sought after teacher and lecturer in southeastern Connecticut.

Ms Liverant’s paintings are included in the collection of Lyman Allyn Museum, Connecticut College, Pfizer, Three Rivers Community Technical College and New Haven Paint and Clay Club, in addition to numerous private and corporate collections nationally. She exhibits her work at Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme and Granary Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard as well as at numerous juried group exhibitions throughout the region. She is a graduate of Paier College of Art in New Haven. She lives and works in Colchester.
