Kick It Motorcycle Ride To Give Cancer The Boot

DANBURY — Motorcycles of all makes and models will help rev up the fight against cancer Sunday, September 21, at the Sixth Annual American Cancer Society’s Kick It Motorcycle Ride.

Starting at Danbury Fair, 7 Backus Drive, Danbury, and finishing in Indian Well State Park on Route 110 in Shelton, this grassroots fundraiser draws hundreds of motorcyclists across Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven Counties to help raise cancer awareness, honor cancer survivors, and support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving research and patient support programs.

“The American Cancer Society is excited to celebrate the fifth anniversary of this popular and inspiring event,” said American Cancer Society Development Associate Robin Flay. “The society depends on events like this to fund its support network for cancer patients, which includes our toll-free information line and website, free wigs, free transportation to and from treatment and one-on-one support groups.”

In 2007, more than 850 riders, including 50 cancer survivors, raised more than $30,000. This year’s ride will be led by Kick It Grand Marshal Buzz Kanter, a Stamford native and Stamford-based publisher who now lives in New Canaan.

With state and local police escorts, riders will follow Routes 7, 33, and 1 through Danbury, Ridgefield, Wilton, Westport, Redding, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, and Shelton. Registration opens at 9:30 am, and the ride begins at 11:30 am. Registration includes a picnic at the park from 1:30 to 3 pm along with a performance by The Hollister Thompson Band. Cancer survivors will receive a bike flag.

Volunteers are also needed to help with registration, cooking, serving, set up, or cleanup on the day of the event.

This year, sponsors include American Iron magazine of Stamford, Connecticut Cruise News of New Milford, the Haymond Law Firm of Hartford, Danbury and Bridgeport, Crown Point Associates LLC of Shelton, and Circle Diner of Fairfield.
