BY ANN MARIE COHEN
Seven students from Sandy Hook Elementary School have been selected to compete
in the 1998-99 National PTA Reflections Program. This program is held annually
and affords students an opportunity to demonstrate their talent and
creativity.
This year's program coordinator was Pat Tenney, first vice-president of the
Sandy Hook PTA. More than 70 students in two grade divisions,(K-2) and (3-5)
submitted works that dealt with the theme "Suddenly You Turn Around and...".
The work submitted was based on one of four categories: literature,
photography, visual arts and music.
In grades K-2, the winning literature entrant was Tess Renker; in visual arts,
Christian Gregoire; and in photography, Brandon Bowen. In grades 3-5, the
winning literature entrant was Eva Cerreta; in visual arts, Billy Sims; in
photography, Samantha Mitchell; and in music, Matt Provost.
All entries were judged by a committee of teachers. The students' entries will
now be judged among the works of other students competing statewide. Each
student who submitted a winning entry will receive a certificate of
participation from the Reflections Program.
