A Great Library
A Great Library
To the Editor:
In contemplating moving out of Newtown, I have totaled up all the things I will miss. Most of the things I really like participating in such as the Congregational Church, the Lions Club, FISH, and the historical society, I can still participate fully in as long as I am not living too far away.
However, there is one institution I will really miss and that is the C.H. Booth Library. If course I can drop in and come to some of the programs, but I canât be on the library board again or participate fully.
This is really a great library! I could go on and on about its books on tape, audio books, the great collection of childrenâs and adult books, videos and DVDs, Bibliomation, the large print books, the daily newspapers and weekly magazines, the beautiful decor. And how many libraries offer daily crossword puzzles to solve or jigsaw puzzles to work on?
And then there are the terrific programs. Under the able directorship of Kim Weber and partly paid for by the ever-useful Friends of the Library, the library weekly offers a number of programs on a large variety of topics. Almost daily something exciting is happening at our library making it really the hub of Newtown.
And what makes this hub work so well? The reason is, of course, its excellent director, Janet Woycik. Through her 30 years she has guided the library in all it does and picked a friendly and helpful staff who greet the public with friendly smiles. And there would have been no library addition without Janetâs keen interest and push. I was library board chair at the time of the addition while Bill Lavery was in charge of working with the contractors and Kathy Geckle and Pat Denlinger gave us the wonderful decorations. But it was Janet who was behind us, pushing, prodding, suggesting, and always in her helpful cheerful way.
We are so lucky to have the wonderful C.H. Booth Library and its excellent director, Janet Woycik. I will surely miss it!
Sincerely,
Gordon M. Williams
