Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals held its annual Open House Celebration & Adoption event on August 4.

The event, which was free and open to the public, gathered vendors and adoptable dogs and cats at the animal hospital.

Just after the event began, dogs wandered the grounds on leashes with Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) volunteers. Tails wagged as new people were introduced to the dogs. Kittens available for adoption through DAWS were situated in a room inside the animal hospital for people to meet.

Newtown Animal Control Officer Carolee Mason stood by as Bruno, a 4-year-old pitbull mix, and JoJo, a 13-year-old Pomeranian, gently nuzzled each other in a pen as visitors said “Hello.”

Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals veterinary assistant Theresa Viesto, who was one of the event organizers, said she hoped all of the six dogs and six cats up for adoption at the event found homes by the end of the day.

Vendors at the event offered different goods, like hand-painted signs and a range of treats for animals.
