About Energy Assistance

Donations to Operation Fuel are tax deductible and all money helps people in

town. Send contributions to: Karen Hoyt, Assistant Director of Human Services,

Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown. (Make checks payable to Operation

Fuel.)

To apply for energy assistance, call Outreach Worker Linda Peck at 270-4344 if

you are a senior citizen or disabled; all other inquiries should be directed

to Karen Hoyt at Human Services, 270-4330. They will be able to tell you over

the phone if you might qualify for any of the program, and then set up a time

to meet with you to fill out the paper work.

CEAP: You will need to show proof of income and liquid assets when applying

for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program. The deadline for application is

March 17, but those with delivered fuel should apply now. Those applying for

assistance with gas and electric bills can apply in January or February; the

money for utilities is credited to bills in the spring time. The town's Human

Service staff takes applications and then sends them to Community Action

Committee of Danbury (CACD), which certifies and notifies applicants of

awards.

Operation Fuel: You will need to show proof of income to apply for the one

time grant offered through the town's formal fuel bank. Funds may be applied

for through June. The money is disseminated through Newtown Human Services.

Newtown Fund, Salvation Army, and local money donated to Operation Fuel:

Limited funds are offered on a case by case basis. Contact Karen Hoyt at Human

Services, 270-4330.
