SNAPSHOT: DAVID PECK
Occupation: I work for the Town of Newtown Highway Department.
Residence: I have lived in Newtown for 52 years. I grew up in the Botsford
section of town.
Biggest Change In Town: Oh, where are you going to start! I guess it's the
number of people moving into town.
Most Vivid Memory of Town: My most vivid memory is of the building of Route
84. It only went to where the bridges are now, and had a turn-a-round. It took
all the roads that were main roads before. I remember there was a hot dog
stand where the Amoco station is. I remember hitchhiking from Botsford to
Danbury and to the Danbury Fair grounds.
Family: My wife, JoAnn, and I have two children, Kimberly, 30, and David, 25.
They're both single. JoAnn and I were married in St Rose Church 32 years ago.
Pets: We have a black Persian cat named Tiny.
Hobbies: I like to watch stock car racing. I also fool around repairing
automobiles. I also like to watch TV. Most of my time is spent working or with
the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Organizations: I have been commander of the VFW since June. I joined the VFW
five years ago and am a lifetime member. I am a member of the American Legion.
I keep busy with the VFW, looking for new members and getting former members
to come back. My wife is president of the VFW auxiliary and my daughter is
treasurer. We're getting ready for the Veterans Day service November 11 at 11
a.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. It's open to the public, and anyone
is welcome to come.
Philosophy: My philosophy is to live each day as it comes.
