Video Chronicles High School Project
(with cut)
BY MICHELE HOGAN
See Bobcat loaders smashing walls, a man balancing in a bucket 80 feet above
the ground and experts taping and tiling the Newtown High School.
In one hour you can see the construction of 85,000 square feet of building,
start to finish.
Premiering Friday, April 10, at 8 pm on Channel 17, the show will also be
aired weeknights next week, Monday, April 13, to Friday, April 17, at 8 pm on
the same channel.
Greg O'Loskey, tech ed teacher at the high school, said it is hard to imagine
the complexity of a $30 million dollar building project until you see it.
Matt Omasta, senior, put in many hot summer days, hanging around dust-filled
rooms with a hard hat on, shooting video tape of walls being bashed down,
dozens of miles of piping coming in, and laser lights being used to set pipe
levels.
At the time, Mr O'Loskey said, they really had no idea where they were going
with the video, but Matt kept shooting each step of the way.
Matt said that even though it took up a lot of his summer "it was very fun,
exciting, getting real-life field experience in a project, and bringing it all
together."
Including the initial shooting and the editing, the video took hundreds of
hours to produce.
Mr O'Loskey said, "We're really pleased with it, and optimistic the public
will enjoy this. It's informative, and relevant. It's what your taxes do."
