Hearing Set On New Sewer Work
The Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) has scheduled a public hearing
for May 30 on its plans to install sewer lines through the center of town in
the coming months.
The hearing is slated for 7:30 pm on Thursday, May 30, in the Alexandria Room
of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.
The WPCA is seeking public comments on its plans to install sewers on Mt
Pleasant Road, Main Street, South Main Street, Lovell's Lane, Laurel Road, Elm
Drive, Sugar Street, Hawley Road, and portions of Country Club Road, School
House Hill Road, and Johnny Cake Lane. The sewer construction work is
collectively known as Contract 3.
The hearing will gather public comment on the planning, design acquisition,
construction and equipping of a sewage treatment plant and sewage collection
system that will serve the Borough, Taunton Pond North and Sandy Hook Center.
At the hearing, property owners in areas where sewers will be installed will
be asked to sign temporary and permanent property easements required for the
construction and maintenance of the sewer system. At such hearings in the
past, town officials have advised property owners to hire lawyers if they have
any legal questions about signing such agreements.
In 1992, voters approved spending up to $34.3 million to build a sewer system
to comply with a state pollution abatement order. The sewer system, which is
scheduled to be complete by late 1997, is designed to rectify longstanding
groundwater pollution problems caused by failing septic systems. Construction
work on the sewer system began in November 1994.
