Report Due In Death Of Allison Youth
A toxicology report has been completed by the state's medical examiner in the
case of a Newtown teenager who died while working alone as a kennel cleaner at
the Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals on July 16.
But Newtown Police Det Robert Tvardzik said Wednesday that it will be about a
week before the report is received by local police and the results can be made
public. Police have been treating the death of Harlan Allison, 16, of Farrell
Road in Hawleyville, as an untimely accidental death.
Police believed that the youth may have somehow ingested halothane, a chemical
used to anesthetize animals during surgery. Halothane was present in the room
where the youth was found. Police said, however, that even if the chemical is
proven to be the cause of death, they may never know the circumstances
surrounding the poisoning.
Halothane is not a controlled substance and does not have to be kept in a
secure area.
