OBITS Bruce Leech

Bruce S. Leech, 85, a former resident of Newtown, died July 12, at Southside

Hospital in Bayshore, Long Island, after a short illness. He was the husband

of Jane B. Leech of Southold, N.Y.

Son of Herbert B. Leech and Florence Levering Crane, he was born in Baltimore,

Md. He was a great-nephew of the British illustrator and humorist, John Leech,

and a direct descendant of Robert Treat, first governor of Connecticut.

Mr Leech attended Fishburne Military School in Virginia, and the New York

University School of Fine Arts and Architecture. He moved from Newtown to Long

Island in 1989 after a lengthy career in real estate.

He was past president of the Newtown Board of Realtors, and served as chairman

of Newtown Board of Tax Review from 1980 to 1984. He was president and owner

of Faraway Meadows, Inc., a real estate firm with offices in Fairfield and New

Haven counties.

Mr Leech is also survived by a son, Douglas, and a daughter, Norma, by a

previous marriage; three step-children, Arthur W. Bell, III, of Las Vegas,

Nev., Christina Bell-Gumaer of Berkley, Calif., and Jesse Bell Treff of West

Hartford; a sister, Mrs William Timm of Cheriton, Va., and two grandchildren.

Private services were conducted from the Hale and Lynch Funeral Home in Middle

Island on July 14. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery,

Calverton, N.Y.

Harlan L. Allison

Harlan L. Allison, 16, of Farrell Road, Newtown, died July 16, at Danbury

Hospital. He was a junior at Newtown High School.

Born in Bangor, Maine, on January 29, 1979, he was a son of Harold and Joan

Poeltl Allison. He had lived in Newtown for nine years. He was a member of the

Newtown High School cross-country track team and also was an avid bowler,

receiving many trophies.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Jamie, Emily, and

Whitney Allison, all of Newtown; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Ann

Poeltl of Fairfield; his paternal grandmother, Mildred Allison-Smith of

Stratford; and several aunts and uncles.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Newtown Scholarship

Association, P.O. Box 302, Newtown 06470.

Services were held the morning of July 20, from the Honan Funeral Home to a

Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Burial will take

place at a later date.
