Dinner guests should not pick at their teeth at the table with a knife, straw
or stick. They must not tell unseemly tales, nor rest their legs upon the
table.
And, certainly, they must never leave bones on the table - always hide them
under the chairs.
Guests at the Madrigal Feast sponsored by Ye Olde Newtowne Highe Schoole
Singers on Sunday, December 8, will be reminded of these rules of etiquette,
and others, during an evening of wassailing and fine dining at the Stony Hill
Inn.
Throughout the evening, the dinner guests will be entertained by singers,
instrumentalists and humourous entertainers from the high school group who
will be dressed in Elizabethan costumes.
Madrigal singing, brought to England from Italy in the 16th Century, was an
important part of the holiday season during the Renaissance. Madrigals are
songs written for small groups in which several voice parts are skillfully
combined so that each part is interesting and independent, both melodically
and rhythmically.
During the madrigal feast, guests will discover how Christmas was celebrated
in Elizabethan England while they are entertained with music and much
merriment.
Tickets to the dinner are $30 (tax and gratuity included). The ticket
reservation deadline is Wednesday, November 27.
Dinner choices are broiled Boston scrod, chicken marsala or London broil. The
event begins at 5 pm with a social hour, 6 pm dinner and entertainment.
Tickets may be ordered by mail by making checks payable to NHS Choral Parents
and sending them, with the attendees names and dinner choices, to Ann Doyle,
Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook 06482.
