Truck Rams Police Car In Getaway Attempt

Police Patrolman James Mooney responded to a report at about 9 am on February

17 that a theft of scrap metal was in progress at Apex Glass & Aluminum

Products at 59« Church Hill Road.

As Mooney was arriving at the scene, James Cash, 31, of Danbury was driving a

pickup truck there and attempting to flee the area, police said. Cash's pickup

truck slammed into the driver's side of the police car, disabling the police

car, police said.

Cash then drove eastbound on Church Hill Road and hit another vehicle near

Commerce Road driven by Mary Ann Fisher of Newtown, according to police. The

second accident didn't injure Ms Fisher and caused minor damage, police said.

Cash then drove eastbound on Interstate-84 until he was pulled over by state

police in Southbury.

Mooney was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was checked out for

possible injuries and later released. The police car sustained moderate damage

and was towed from the scene.

Police charged Cash with second-degree assault, sixth-degree larceny, two

counts of evading responsibility, and operating a motor vheicle with a

suspended license. Police held him on a $5,000 bond for a February 20

appaearance in Danbury Superior Court.
