Patty Murren Top Amateur Tennis Player

WINSTON-SALEM - Wake Forest University senior, Patty Murren, of Newtown, is

listed as the top women's amateur tennis player in the country, according to

the United States Tennis Association's latest rankings.

Players are listed by how well the performed last summer in Intercollegiate

Tennis Association events. Murren reached the finals of the ITA National

Summer Collegiate Championships after winning one event at William & Mary and

making the finals of another at Georgetown.

Players must have competed in at least two tournaments on the ITA Summer

Circuit, including the national championship, in order to be eligible for

rankings. points are awarded based on finish and number of players in the

field.
