Mildred Lovell Dies, Newtown Resident For 87 Years

Mildred Stevens Lovell, 97, a resident of Newtown for 87 years, died July 26,

at Glen Hill Convalescent Center, Danbury. She was the wife of the late Louie

C. Lovell.

She was born in Port Chester, N.Y., October 28, 1897, a daughter of William

and Amy Stevens. She attended kindergaten in Cold Springs, N.Y. Then she and

her family moved to Purchase, N.Y., where she attended school at Union School,

located between Port Chester and White Plains, N.Y.

In 1908, Mildred moved with her family to Newtown, where she continued her

schooling in South Center School, also North Middle School near the monument

on North Main Street, Newtown. She attended Newtown High School across from St

Rose Church, where she graduated in June 1917.

After graduating, she worked part time for Mrs C.B. Taylor for $4 a week.

In 1913, Mildred became a member of the Newtown Congregational Church and

remained a faithful member of Church Circle 3.

In 1916, she met Louie C. Lovell. Mr Lovell courted Mildred for two years.

They were married November 28, 1918, at the home of her parents on Mile Hill,

Newtown.

After a short wedding trip, they lived on the farm with Mr Lovell's parents on

Queen Street. The Lovell farm, consisting of several hundred acres, was sold

in 1930, and thus became the Fairfield State Hospital.

In 1930, the Lovell's moved into their new home on Queen Street and raised

their three children there.

Mrs Lovell was a member of Pootatuck Grange from 1916 to 1922. In April of

1933, she joined the Eastern Star and served as Matron from march 1956 to

1957. She was also an active member of Fairfield County Farm

Bureau/Homemakers.

In the passing years the family of Louie and Mildred grew to adults and

settled in homes of their own. So in 1960, they built their home on Topside

lane where they spent many happy years.

Mrs Lovell is survived by two sons, Louis E. Lovell of Winter Springs, Fla.,

and William E. Lovell of Martinsville, Va.; a daughter, Helen L. Knapp of

Epsom, N.H.; one grandson; eight granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren;

one great-great grandchild; one niece; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Newtown Congregational

Church, 14 West Street, Newtown 06470.

Officers and members of Stellar Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, will offer

a Lodge memorial service at the Tomlinson Homestead on Thursday, July 27, at 8

pm.

Calling hours are Thursday, July 27, from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home, 336

Main Street, Danbury.

Services will be held Friday, July 28, at 11 am, at the Newtown Congregational

Church, 14 West Street, Newtown. Burial will be Newtown Village Cemetery.

Samuel Mauro

Samuel J. Mauro, 71, husband of Rose Marsico Mauro of Fieldstone Drive,

Newtown, died at home on July 26.

Mr Mauro was born in Stamford on December 2, 1923, son of the late Leonard and

Emma Sessa Mauro. He attended Stamford schools.

At the time of his retirement he was employed by Connecticut Bank and Trust.

Mr Mauro was a member of St Rose Church, Newtown, Newtown Senior Citizen's

Center, and CBT Retiree's Club.

He served in the US Navy during WWII.

Besides his wife, Mr Mauro is survived by one son, Rodney M. Mauro of Newtown;

one brother, Arnold Mauro of Noroton Heights, Darien; two sisters, Fulvia

DeAngelis of Los Angeles, Calif., Rachel DeAngelis of Las Vegas, Nev.; two

grandsons; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose Church, Newtown on

Saturday, July 29, at 9:30 am. Interment will be in St Mary Cemetery,

Greenwich.

There are no calling hours.

Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, is in charge of

arrangements.

Albina Uliano

Albina Ann "Beany" Fedirko Uliano, 46, a certified nurse's aide, died July 26,

in her home in Newtown. She was the wife of Dominic Uliano, Sr.

Mrs Uliano was born in Bridgeport, and had lived in Newtown for the past 19

years.

She had been employed at Ashlar of Newtown.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Dominic Uliano, Jr,

and Jason Uliano, both of Newtown, and Anthony Uliano of Chester, Va.; a

brother, William Fedirko of Laurens, N.Y.; a sister, Debra Pahlsson of

Newtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Friday, July 28, from 4 to 8 pm, at the Spadaccino & Sons

Funeral Home, 499 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport.

Saturday, July 29, at 9 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in

St Stephen's Church, Trumbull. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery,

Newtown.
