OBITS (Reidy; Curran; Bor; Desien; Piper; Heron)
Josephine M. Reidy
Josephine M. Reidy, 94, formerly of Nunnawauk Meadows, died June 16 at Ashlar
of Newtown. She was the wife of the late William P. Reidy.
Mrs Reidy was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 14, 1904, a daughter of the late
Simon and Delia (McInerney) Mannix. She lived most of her life in Brooklyn and
Jamaica, N.Y., moving to Newtown in 1984. She worked as a bookkeeper for New
York Telephone and later for Kings County Trust. She was a parishioner at
Immaculate Conception Church in Jamaica for 35 years and at St Rose of Lima
Church in Newtown the past 14 years.
Mrs Reidy is survived by two sons, William and his wife Jeanne of Bedford,
Mass., and Gerard and his wife Elaine of Sandy Hook; a daughter, Sheila Kuhn
and her husband Dan of Brookfield, ten grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. She was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters and a great
grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 18 in St Rose Church. Burial in
St Rose Cemetery.

Laurette Curran
Laurette Lavoie Curran, 78, mother of Laura Curran Coates of Newtown, died
June 12 in Connecticut Hospice, Branford.
She was the wife of the late Dr Edmund B. Curran. Mrs Curran was born in
Rimouski, Quebec, Canada, on December 20, 1919, the daughter of the late Dr
Thomas Lavoie and Laura Paradis Lavoie. She was a resident of Guilford before
moving to Milford 18 years ago.
She was a registered nurse in the infirmary at Southern Connecticut State
University until retiring in 1986. Previously, she was a registered nurse at
Yale-New Haven Hospital and had practiced in Rhode Island, Minnesota, and
Washington, D.C.
She graduated from the college of St Maurice for Young Girls in St Hyacinthe,
Quebec, Canada, and in 1941 from St Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in
Providence, R.I. She attended Southern Connecticut State University, where she
earned a bachelor of arts in French and a bachelor of science in nursing. She
also attended the Sorbonne University of Paris, France, where she earned a
master's in French literature.
Mrs Curran was a member of the Bridgeport Bridge Club; the American Contract
Bridge League; the American Nurses Association; and the American Association
of Oncology Nurses. She was certified to teach French and was a member of the
American teachers of French.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by a son, Edmund Lavoie Curran of
Westerly, R.I.; another daughter, Patrice Curran Creighton of Richmond, Mass.;
and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristen, and Ross Coates and Kelly and Megan
Creighton.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 20, at 1 pm
in the First United Church of Christ Congregational, 34 West Main Street,
Milford. Committal will be private.
Arrangements are in care of the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on
the Green, Milford.

Joseph Bor
Joseph Bor, father of Marsha Parker of Sandy Hook, died June 14.
Mr Bor was a resident of Margate, Fla., and formerly of Danbury.
He was the husband of Thelma Korn Bor.
Besides his wife and daughter, Mr Bor is survived by a brother, Samuel Bor of
Mass., and George Bor of Ga., and a grandchild, Sara Ruth Parker.
Funeral services were held at the Mishkan Israel Cemetery, Whaley Avenue, New
Haven on June 17.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of one's choice.
A period of mourning will be observed at the Parker home, 12 Cobblers Mill
Road, Sandy Hook, through Friday.
Robert E. Shure Funeral home, New Haven was in charge of arrangements.

Louis J. Desien
Louis J. Desien, 96, father of Josephine Milas of Sandy Hook, died June 15 at
Maefair Health Care Center, Trumbull.
He was the husband of the late Catherine Ciance Desien.
Mr Desien was born on May 30, 1902 in Carbondale, Penn., the son of the late
Philip and Josephine Vogolino Desien.
He was a coal miner in Pennsylvania before moving to Bridgeport. Before
retiring in 1967, he was locally employed by Auto Ordinance, McGuire and
Remington companies, serving as union president during his employment at
McGuire's.
Besides his daughter he is survived by two other daughters, Antoinette Bruno
of Fairfield and Mary Tavella of Trumbull; two brothers, Nicholas Desien of
Baltimore, Md. and Michael Desien of Linden, N.J.; a sister, Mary Sirianni of
Bristol; seven grandchildren, Linda Newton, Beverly Scarpetti, Gary Milas,
Karen Dickinson, Cathy Brennan, Nino Tavella and Carol Procopio; and 15
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 17 from the S. Spadaccino & Sons Funeral Home,
Bridgeport followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Andrew Church,
Bridgeport. Interment in St John's Cemetery, Stratford.

Anna E. Piper
Anna E. Piper, 92, sister of Caroline Barrett of Newtown, died June 13 at
Mediplex of Danbury.
She was the wife of William A. Piper of Osborne St, Danbury.
Mrs Piper was born in Rye, N.Y., on December 30, 1905, the daughter of the
late Mark and Annie (Ward) Flynn. She attended Rye, N.Y. schools.
Besides her husband and sister, she is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A.
Piper of Wilton and Jean Nowlin of Pound Ridge, N.Y.; two brothers, Edward and
Carl Gonzales, both of Bethel; another sister, Jeanette Sivo of Brookfield;
three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held June 17 at the Green Funeral Home, Danbury. Burial
was in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.

Patrick J. Heron Sr
Patrick J. Heron, 66, father of Patrick K. Heron II of Newtown, died at his
home June 14.
He was the husband of Donna M. (Dale) Heron of Danbury. He was a retired
Lieutenant, DFD.
Mr Heron was born in Danbury, January 6, 1932, the son of the late Patrick and
Catherine (Lagan) Heron. He was a graduate of St Peter School and Danbury High
School, class of 1950.
Mr Heron served with the Danbury Fire Dept for more than 33 years, retiring in
1992. He was a lifelong Danbury resident.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Danbury Firefighters Association Local
801, and the International Association of Firefighters. He was also an
honorary member of Wooster Hose Company and a member of Bethel Lions Club.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by another son, Timothy H. Heron, of
Danbury; a daughter, Patti Ann Vasquez, of Danbury; a brother, Daniel Heron,
of Danbury; three sisters, Margaret Heron and Anne Casagrande of Danbury,
Kathleen Januzzi of New Fairfield; two grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Heron;
and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 17 at Sacred Heart Church.
Burial was in St Peter Cemetery.
