ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Missed this one last week, and I do apologize: KISS' Psycho Circus Tour in 3-D
will be at the Hartford Civic Center on Wednesday, November 25. That's the eve
of Thanksgiving. Showtime is 7:30 pm. The opening act is supposed to be an
actual "psycho circus." Tickets are available through the Civic Center's box
office directly, or from any TicketMaster outlet (which includes Filene's in
Danbury).
Like SARAH McLACHLAN did last year during her non-Lilith time, NATALIE
MERCHANT will be returning to Connecticut later this year for a solo
performance at The Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. Tickets are not yet
available for the show, but Merchant will be performing on December 12.
JOHN HIATT, who has an excellent greatest hits collection in the stores right
now, has been added to the lineup at Toad's Place in New Haven. Hiatt will be
performing on Monday, November 9.
JOAN JETT returns to Connecticut, this time to the still-fairly-new Sports
Rock USA club in New Britain on Saturday night.
Guitarist NILS LOFGREN has a solo show in our state this month. He'll be at
Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road in Manchester, on November 28. Tickets are on
sale and are $13 in advance, or $15 the night of the show. Cheney Hall tickets
are available through Pro-Tix outlets.
The Palace in New Haven already has tickets on sale for an interesting
combination coming to town on January 30. FABULOUS FARQUAR, EIGHT TO THE BAR
and GALVANIZED JAZZ BAND are playing an 8 pm show that night. Tickets are
$13.50 to $17.50 apiece, and are also available through Pro-Tix outlets.
Well here's something rather exciting. As if I haven't said enough about GREG
BROWN in recent weeks, here is some more about the wonderful
singer-songwriter. Following his performance in Newtown on November 12, Brown
will be at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY (just over the state line, no
more than 15 minutes from Danbury) on Sunday, November 15! Tickets are $20 for
this show (that's more expensive than the Newtown show, but still very worth
it for the chance to see the singer-songwriter again while still within our
area), and Karen Savoca will again be opening. To reserve seats, which is
strongly suggested because the cafe is only about one-tenth the size of the
auditorium at Edmond Town Hall, call the Town Crier at 914/855-1300.
Here is something I didn't already know about Greg Brown: His composition
"Iowa Waltz" is under consideration for the honor of becoming the Iowa state
song.
The Crier has quite an amazing line-up of personalities coming to perform on
its stage. In addition to the aformentioned show, CEILI RAIN is up there this
weekend, on November 8; SANS CHERUBS opens a show by FERRON on November 14;
THE KENNEDYS and GREY EYE GLANCES will share the bill on November 21; THE
JAMES COTTON BAND plays the following night, November 22; and LEON REDBONE,
November 27.
Among the cafe's shows next month will be RICK DANKO, December 5, with Too
Human opening; COMMANDER CODY & HIS LOST PLANET AIRMEN, December 6; TUCK &
PATTI, December 12; THE CLANCY TRADITION, December 18; and AZTEC TWO-STEP and
DEVONSQUARE, December 26.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road, contemplating whether I
really want to know what GENE SIMMONS in 3-D is going to look like!
