ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
SOLE will be performing next Friday (January 29) at Tuxedo Junction. The band
used to be known as Fun House.
MIND TYDES will be at Toad's Place in New Haven next Thursday (Jan 28). The
show will begin at 8 pm, and there are vouchers available that will provide a
discount on admission at the door. Anyone interested in receiving a voucher
can contact the band at MindTyde@aol.com. I also have a few spare vouchers
here at the office; call 426-3141. Also performing that night will be Leaf
Jumpers, Dirty Sanchez and St Tone. The show is open to all ages.
Before Mind Tydes heads down to New Haven next week, though, a different
Newtown band has something big happening this weekend. Don't forget about the
CD release party for PLAYBACK tonight (Jan 22) at The Fireside Inn in Newtown.
The party starts at 7:30 and will not only feature sets by Playback --
comprised entirely of Newtown musicians -- but also a few performances by
younger Newtown bands. Tickets are $5 at the door. Light refreshments and soft
drinks are included in that price; a cash bar will be available.
FROGWINGS, the side project of JOHN POPPER and members of THE ALLMAN BROS.
BAND (including Marc Quinones, Butch Trucks and Otell Burbridge), will be at
Toad's Place in New Haven next month. Opening the February 12 show will be
Derek Trucks Band. Tickets are on sale, $16.50 in advance, or $20 at the door.
The club has been featuring local bands quite a bit lately, with nights set
aside specifically for the purpose of showcasing two or three up-and-comers
per night. On Sunday (Januaruy 25), Local Night becomes Local Hardcore Night,
with performances by REV6EIGHT, DEATH THREAT and THROUGH MY PRIDE. On the 28th
is the Locals Night with MIND TYDES that is mentioned above. Tickets for Local
Nights are less than $10 at the door, even cheaper if picked up in advance.
These shows are also open to all ages.
Speaking of all ages, MOE returns to the New Haven club on February 4 for an
all ages show. Huffamoose opens. The following night, an bit of early Irish
celebrating with BLACK 47. Big Bad Johns and The Reilley Clan open that one.
This show is 21-and-over, however.
RUSTED ROOT returns to the state next month. The band is touring through the
spring to support its third album, a self-titled release. Tickets have gone on
sale for a February 17 concert at The Palace Theatre in New Haven.
A benefit concert will be performed next weekend for Clark Farm-CSA, a
community supported farm in Woodbury. The show will include performances by
TRIPLE THREAT BLUES BAND, FRO, and a third performer to be announced. Tickets
are $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. The show will be at Ives Concert Hall,
in White Hall over on the main WestConn campus in Danbury (181 White Street).
Details, contact the farm at 263-5801 or 888-6164.
On Sunday, March 7, THE WOLFE TONES will be performing their 35th anniversary
concert at the North Haven Holiday Inn. Showtime is 5 pm. The inn is off I-91
Exit 12. Seating is limited, so reservations are being suggested. For ticket
costs and other info, call 387-2963 or 723-5981.
The jazz performance by MIKE COPPOLA that was to have been at Borders Books in
Danbury last week has been postponed to next Friday (Jan 29). Mr Coppola had
to postpone the Friday evening performance due to illness.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
