ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS

MIND TYDES will be at the Classic Rock Brew Pub tonight (Aug 28). The band has

been playing steadily since winning the radio 104 Monsters of Rock Wars

contest just about a year ago. The band is a foursome of Newtown guys -- Grady

McAuliffe on vocals and guitar, guitarist Fred Dotson, drummer Greg McWilliam,

and bass player John Dotson.

The 21st Norwalk Oyster Festival is coming up in a few weeks. It will run this

year Friday through Sunday, September 11-13. The musical line-up was announced

last week and it includes a little bit of input from just about every genre

out there. Performances are included with festival admission ($7 adults, $5

seniors, $3 children ages 6-12, and free age 5 & under).

A few notables include FELIX CAVALIERE'S RASCALS on Friday at 8 pm, on the

Festival's Main Stage. Apparently the band line-up has changed over the years,

but Mr Cavaliere was the vocalist who years ago brought such songs as "Good

Lovin'," "A Beautiful Morning," "I've Been Lonely Too Long," and others into

the popular mainstream. The Rascals performance will be followed by a

fireworks show.

On Saturday, KANSAS will be the featured performer on the Main Stage, again at

8 pm. Original member Robby Steinhardt is a major reason fans of the band have

to be excited: after a 15-year hiatus from Kansas, the violin virtuoso has

returned to performing with the band. Kansas has been on the road on an

"orchestral tour" based on the its newest album, Always The Same , which

features the group performing many of its classic hits while backed by the

London Symphony Orchestra.

An interesting note: According to a recent Rolling Stone survey of radio

stations, Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Star" remains one of the most popular

songs on classic rock airwaves.

Also performing on Saturday will be RATSO, at 2:30 pm; JON PARIS' 4TH ANNUAL

BLUES SHOW, 4 pm; and ROB BALDUCCI at 7 pm. In the Budweiser Entertainment

Tent on Saturday at 6:30 pm will be perennial local favorite SANS CHERUBS.

The festival's Main Stage will be home to performances on Sunday by GOVERNMENT

MULE at 4 pm, THE GOOD RATS at 6 pm, and then the festival finale, CHUCK

NEGRON ("The Voice of Three Dog Night") at 7:30 pm.

Speaking of seafood (oysters...), in a really stretched sense, LEFTOVER SALMON

will open the month of October with a show at Toad's Place. The show is open

to all ages. THE RADIATORS return to the New Haven club the following night.

Sweeter Than Wine opens that show, which is for the 21-and-over crowd.

Lexington Gardens in Newtown has a Perennial Sale going on, according to a

sign in front of the business on Church Hill Road.

Will the sale really last forever, do you suppose, or just until the nursery

runs out of its returning plant supply? Until next week, I'll be seeing you...

on the road.

over unless specified.
