Silent Auction Will Help
Build Homes For Troops  Â
In support of severely wounded American military personnel, The Sports Authority of Danbury and 1st and 10 Sports Bar And Grill in New Milford are co-hosting a silent auction of autographed sports memorabilia. All funds raised through the auction will be donated to Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that builds custom handicapped-accessible homes for young military personnel who are returning home with life-altering injuries.
Included in the items being auctioned are a full-size NY Giants helmet, with the Super Bowl logo and autographed by Eli Manning; tickets to Yankee and Citi Field Stadiums; a football autographed by legendary quarterback Joe Namath; limited edition (not sold in stores) Jets and Giants team-autographed footballs; a Giants Ahmad Bradshaw autographed football and photo; Celtic Ray Allen photo; a foursome of golf and lunch at Ridgewood Country Club; an autographed Boston Bruin hockey puck; and two baseballs autographed by Boston Red Sox pitchers.
The items are displayed at The Sports Authority, 13 Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury (telephone 203-798-9520) any time the store is open (Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 10 pm; Sunday, 9 am to 9 pm).
The silent auction items will remain on view until Saturday, August 25, when they will be moved to 1st and 10 Sports Bar & Grill, 507 Danbury Road (Route 7/202; telephone 860-354-1800). A finale to the event will be hosted by the restaurant from 7 to 10 pm that evening. There will be door prizes, including an Eli Manning poster donated by the NY Giants, awarded during the final hour of bidding.
All winning bids will be paid for by checks made payable to Homes For Our Troops and are tax-deductible. Winners will receive their items once their checks have cleared.
Lois Barber of Newtown, a volunteer fundraiser for Homes For Our Troops, obtained the items and is coordinating the event.
Anyone who would like to donate tickets or an item to be auctioned, or make a monetary donation directly to the nonprofit, can contact her at 203-270-8017. Anyone with questions about the silent auction is also welcome to contact Ms Barber.
