Newtown hosted its latest National Night Out event on August 5 and estimates report more than 500 people visited the Fairfield Hills campus for the family event.

National Night Out is celebrated in all 50 US states, as well as US territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. It’s an annual community-building campaign that takes place on the first Tuesday of August. Newtown’s event is co-hosted by Newtown Community Center and Newtown Police Department.

Newtown first responders as well as several community service organizations joined together last week to celebrate and participate in the local National Night Out offering. Local dignitaries, non-profit representatives, the military and local law enforcement personnel as well as Newtown’s fire companies all took part in the exciting event.

There was the ever-popular dunk tank, face painting, games of chance for children, food trucks, and an opportunity to see what a drone sees when it is flying overhead.
