On Tuesday, August 4, Newtown celebrated National Night Out, a yearly community building event between first responders and residents. National Night Out is celebrated across the United States, as well as US territories, military bases, and some Canadian cities.

Newtown first responders, as well as several community service organizations, came together on Tuesday, August 4 to celebrate and participate in Newtown’s National Night Out event. Hundreds of guests attended the event that was held at Newtown Community Center. Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue (NUSAR) was one of the groups that attended.

Newtown Police offered children the opportunity to try on some of its protective gear during the event, too.

Edward Van Wright of Good Tymes Entertainment was also there providing music for the occasion. Children were able to get their faces painted as well.

NUSAR brought along some of its tech for children to test out, like underwater radios so divers and team members on land can communicate.
