‘Refreshing’ Leadership

To the Editor:

Refreshing. That’s a word Barbara Bloom used to describe Chris Lyddy in her letter to the editor [“The Voice Of Experience] last week. I couldn’t agree more. In fact, I believe it is time this town has some refreshing leadership; leadership that listens and engages with the community. Not only is Chris an energetic person and an active member of Newtown, he also strives to provide innovative and agreeable solutions to some of our state’s most complex problems. These are just some of the most refreshing characteristics about him!

I recently spoke with Chris about education. There is no doubt that he is one of the most passionate leaders on the issue. He not only talks about it, he actively speaks with and engages school administrators, teachers, support staff, and yes, even students, too. This is an admirable quality that we should embrace in our local and state leadership.

Chris and I spoke about a number of issues, including curriculum development, equity of access to services within our own school district, the burden of unfunded mandates, and the increasing issue of space for our high school students. We need a leader who is going to fight for these issues in the Connecticut General Assembly. We can’t afford to have a backseat legislator who is content with maintaining the status quo.

As a product of the Newtown Public Schools, Chris is committed to nourishing our school system so that our children can continue to grow and learn in an environment that prepares them to be contributing members of our society.

Please join me in supporting Chris Lyddy for state representative.
