Barbara J. Guardino

Barbara J. (Lombardi) Guardino, RN, 92, a longtime New York City resident and Danbury native, died August 20, at Filosa Care Center in Danbury, after a brief illness. Born in Danbury on August 11, 1920, she was a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Sabo Lombardi. She was the wife of the late Stephen Guardino, Jr.

Survivors include her brother, Joseph Lombardi of Newtown and a sister, Laura Lombardi of Danbury; and her stepsons Stephen Guardino III and Henry Guardino, both of Florida. Several nieces and their spouses and several great-nieces and nephews also survive Mrs Guardino.

Mrs Guardino was a 1938 graduate of Danbury High School and received her RN from St Francis School of Nursing in Hartford. She worked briefly at Danbury Hospital before joining Doctor’s Hospital in New York City. She later did private duty nursing.

A New York City resident for almost 70 years, Barbara returned to Danbury in 2007. A longtime member of The Church of St Catherine of Siena in New York City, she was also a volunteer with Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Cancer Center at Memorial-Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Mrs Guardino had a great sense of style and enjoyed her weekend trips to Danbury to visit her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Friday, August 24, at 10 am, at St Joseph’s Church, 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There are no calling hours.
